How can you get rid of a double chin? Fat buildup in the neck and under the jawline can create a more rounded facial appearance. If you’re looking for a sharper and more defined jawline, chin liposuction can help remove excess fat.
Sometimes a proper diet and time in the gym aren’t enough to remove body fat around the chin. It’s one of those hard-to-manage fat deposits we have in our bodies. For that streamlined profile, when you look in the mirror, you may need to physically remove the excess fat that creates a double chin.
A double chin, also called submental fullness, can be removed using several cosmetic medical procedures. At Chicago Liposuction by Lift Body Center, we rely on liposuction techniques to remove fat from beneath the skin. The doctor meticulously sculpts the chin and neck contour to give you a more defined jawline. Submental liposuction is our preferred method because it’s safer than other more invasive plastic surgeries and only uses a local anesthetic to numb the general area.
Other methods to correct a double chin may include the following procedures:
Our goal is to help give you the face shape you desire while assuring you’re safe, comfortable, and pain-free. Liposuction procedures are performed in our office using local anesthesia and light sedation. You’ll remain awake and alert while undergoing the procedure. We use a powerful yet gentle local anesthetic to numb your face and neck area while the liposuction doctor sculpts your newly defined jawline.
Chin lipo begins with making small incisions in different areas of your chin. We use a sterile tumescent fluid containing lidocaine (a numbing agent) and epinephrine (blood vessel constrictor) to decrease bleeding. Chin liposuction works by inserting a small tube called a cannula into different areas of the chin. The cannula gently sucks excess fat from the chin to sculpt a more desired face shape. Small and strategic amounts of unwanted fat are removed from each incision site. The result is a more defined jawline, even profile, and reduced fat under the jawbone.
The results are natural-looking, and in most cases, the incisions are virtually undetectable. Most patients don’t require sutures after chin lipo. You will be fitted with a chin strap-style compression garment to reduce swelling and discomfort. Most styles wrap around the back of your head and under your chin.
Double chin liposuction is intended for those with excess fat under the jawline. If your chin is causing you to feel self-conscious, you’re not the only one. Unfortunately, losing weight doesn’t guarantee jowls or a double chin will disappear. The neck area is a tricky part of the body to target.
Chin liposuction permanently removes the excess fat from your chin and neck. Following treatment, you’ll be left with a prominent jawline and youthful appearance.
Submental liposuction sculpts the chin and neck area by removing fat deposits that create a double chin. The amount of fat removed and how much elasticity you have in your skin both play a part in your final results. After your double chin removal, you will notice a much slimmer, more youthful contour. Unwanted fat is permanently removed during liposuction; however, new fat cells can grow if you gain weight.
We recommend adhering to a wholesome diet and regular exercise schedule to keep the results of your procedure intact.
Double chin surgery is a straightforward surgery with minimal downtime. You will be required to wear your compression garment for a least a week after surgery. Some patients may be instructed to wear a tight chin strap for three to six weeks following treatment. Compression garments help minimize the risk of complications, reduce swelling, and help prevent asymmetry.
Pain, tenderness, bruising, and swelling are common side effects of double chin surgery. Symptoms should subside within a week to two weeks following your treatment. If you’re undergoing double chin liposuction, we recommend taking sufficient time off of work. The compression strap can be uncomfortable to wear in social situations. Swelling and bruising should be mostly resolved within three to six weeks.
Double chin removal usually requires some type of cosmetic surgery to get noticeable, drastic results. While non-surgical fat reduction treatments, like CoolSculpting, can slim and tone the neck by freezing fat cells, the results will be more minimal compared to liposuction.
If you don’t have a lot of unwanted fat around your chin, non-surgical fat removal treatments may help. But if you want a notable change in your chin’s shape and contour, surgery is required. CoolSculpting may be a good alternative for patients who don’t qualify for double chin removal surgery.
KYBELLA is a prescription medicine used to enhance the profile and appearance of submental fat. KYBELLA is administered via small injections under the chin. You may need multiple treatments to see results depending on the amount of fat you want to eliminate under your chin. Many patients require 6 rounds of treatments to see a difference in their profile and submental fat amounts. The average cost can range from $1,200 to $1,800 per treatment. Patients who require several treatments will often pay more than they would for chin liposuction.
KYBELLA isn’t a good option for patients without highly elastic neck skin (like liposuction) or who have looser skin muscles. Much like CoolSculpting, KYBELLA is a non-surgical procedure meaning you won’t notice as much of a significant change as you would with surgery.
Chin liposuction and non-surgical fat reducing methods are not intended to promote weight loss. Cosmetic surgeries, procedures, and non-invasive treatments will not help you lose weight.
Most of our patients are men and women between the ages of 18-60. You may be a good candidate for double chin removal with liposuction if you’re a healthy adult with bothersome fat in your chin, jaw, or upper neck. Ideal patients should have good skin elasticity.
Preexisting medical conditions may influence your candidacy. You’ll discuss your medical history with the doctor during your consultation. If you do qualify, it’s important to have realistic expectations about the outcome of your surgery.
