Prepare For A Positive Experience

Our expertise in body sculpting begins with knowledge, which is why we want to provide you with the best information to prepare you for any treatment or surgery you are looking to have. For Liposuction patients, preparing for success begins with pre-consultation research, but there are also a few crucial items you’ll want to prepare for surgery day and recovery. Here is our list of eight essential tips to prepare you for your liposuction procedure at Chicago Liposuction by Lift Body Center.

1. Prepare These Two Lists For Your Consultation

Before your consultation, it’s a great idea to do some research on the procedure you’re interested in and make a list of questions you have for the doctor. We answer some of the most frequently asked questions about liposuction on our website; NewBeauty also has a lot of helpful information. You will need to provide a list of current medications or medical conditions, so it’s a good idea to take photos of your medications or write them down for your consultation.

2. Plan Months Ahead For Special Events

If you’re thinking about having liposuction to look your best for a special event, you should plan at least two months ahead to have time for both your consultation and surgery. Additionally, you’ll want to plan for at least a month of wearing compression. Depending on your special event, most compression can be hidden under your clothing, but if you’re preparing for holidays in Hawaii, plan ahead so you can be done with the compression portion of recovery.

3. Stop Smoking

If you are a smoker, one of the things the doctor will ask you to do is quit smoking for at least one month prior to and following liposuction surgery. This is because the risks for complications during and after liposuction are greater for smokers. Smokers have a greater risk for hypertension, and if your blood pressure is too high, a surgical procedure is not recommended. Also, smokers have greater risks post-surgery because smoking compromises essential blood flow, which affects the healing process.

4. Find A Ride

Due to the medications you receive before surgery, you can not drive after your procedure. Also, those having a BBL procedure won’t be able to drive to and from post-op procedures without a special pillow. Plan ahead for your liposuction procedure and have a ride for surgery day, as well as any necessary cushions to avoid putting pressure on fat transfer areas.

5. Pay Your Balance The Day Prior

This is very important. While a deposit is required to secure your surgery date, you must be paid in full the day before your surgery. If you aren’t able to pay in full prior to surgery, you will lose your deposit, which can be as much as 50% of your total surgery cost. This means, to reschedule, you’ll have to start from scratch. Ask us about our policy for rescheduling, cancellations and refunds.

6. Bring Your Meds The Day Of Surgery

There are four medications you have to bring with you on the day of your surgery. If you fail to bring these medications with you, we will not be able to perform your surgery and the surgery will either be cancelled or rescheduled. This means you will lose your deposit and have to start from scratch. We will contact you prior to your surgery to collect final payment and remind you to bring meds with you on surgery day.

7. Understand The Recovery Process

There are a few essential post-op appointments that you must attend following your liposuction procedure. It’s absolutely important to understand that the doctor will need to see you the day after your surgery, one week from surgery, and one month after surgery. During these appointments, the doctor checks to be sure you haven’t had any abnormal reactions to the procedure, removes your stitches, and assesses the healing process before you can stop using your compression garment. Many times, we find that our out-of-town patients are so focused on their surgery that they forget to plan for their post-op appointments; plan ahead so you can block out the time in your calendar and secure a ride if necessary.

*You can expect to have minimal inflammation between your one and three-month post-op appointments, but for the most part, this inflammation will be unnoticeable and you’ll be seeing beautiful results. The majority of your skin-tightening results will start to appear between your three and six-month post-ops. BBL patients still need to keep pressure off their fat transfer areas for at least two months after surgery.

8. Prepare Household For Success

Liposuction is not a weight loss solution. While the average Lipo 360 patient loses four-inches from their waist, it is up to them to maintain or improve their results with necessary lifestyle changes. In addition to following the doctor’s directions, it’s important to identify and eliminate bad eating habits while also adding an exercise routine to your schedule that you can stick to. For most, it’s best to have your household on board with these healthy lifestyle habits in order to be successful. Eliminate processed and fried foods, and instead, practice ‘crowding’ your plate with plants. Prioritize vegetables, fruits, leafy greens, beans and legumes, and whole grains. Going on a phone-free daily walk with your family after dinner is a great way to stay active, support digestion and circulation, and improve mental health.

These 8 simple steps for preparing for your liposuction procedure will help you have a smooth and enjoyable experience from consultation through recover and beyond.

*Results and experiences vary patient to patient. Your recovery success depends on your following the direction of the doctor.
